With $35 million from Amtrak and $35 million from the Port Authority, the new Hudson River tunnel, a project called Gateway, can get underway after squabbling from federal and state officials on both sides of the river about paying for the $20 billion infrastructure upgrade.

The costs for the new tunnel will be split 50-50 between the federal government and the sates.

“After years of talk but no action, I am proud to see this endeavor moving forward and I look forward to seeing construction begin soon,” Gov. Cuomo said in a statement.
