All aboard: Montgomery, Alabama may get passenger trains

Discussions are still in the early stages, but Corridor Capital is opening an office here to explore an operation that would run passengers from New Orleans, to Mobile, to Huntsville – and beyond – with stops in Montgomery and other cities.

To make it happen, they’d have to work out agreements with several entities, including freight track owners CSX. That could mean adding tracks and other infrastructure to make sure they don’t “get in the way” of freight business, Corridor Capital Chairman Jim Coston said. But much of the infrastructure is already in place.

“You don’t have to build a new railroad,” Coston said. “This has been done successfully in other areas around the country.”
