With a deadline approaching, U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos ratcheted up the pressure Thursday on Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner to move ahead on the stalled passenger rail link between Chicago and the Quad-Cities.Website Insert Call Me State DOTs copy

In a letter, Bustos, a Moline Democrat, noted that June 30 is the deadline to use the federal funds that were awarded six years ago for the project, and she urged prompt action.

“There are only two weeks until the deadline!,” Bustos wrote by hand at the bottom of a letter she sent in late April asking the Republican governor to take action. “I strongly urge you to work with me to grow our economy before it’s too late!”

At stake is $177 million in federal funds, Illinois’ share of an original $230 million award the Obama administration made in the fall of 2010 for passenger rail service between Chicago and Iowa City.
