Banff passenger train not a Calgary concern: councillor

One Calgary councillor says its great that Banff is floating the idea of passenger rail service to the tourist mecca – just don’t ask Calgary to share in the cost.Website Insert Passenger Trains Very Well copy

Right now, Banff is seeking $350,000 from the province to conduct a feasibility study on the idea.

Diana Waltmann, manager of communications for the town of Banff, said traffic has become a problem and the town’s infrastructure isn’t built for the millions of cars that pass through each year.

They’ve been looking for ways to mitigate the problem

“One of the factors is how people get here,” she said. “Are there alternatives to where people get into the park?”

She said if the town did get the funding for a study, they would look at look at risks and costs of creating a passenger rail service from Calgary to Banff.
