Rebuilding the Bonnet Carre Spillway railroad trestle will take about a week, Canadian National Railway spokesman Patrick Waldron said Monday (Feb. 15). Crews swung into action Saturday night after fire destroyed part of the bridge.Website Insert Our Name Tells Our Story copy

Railroad workers removed damaged portions into Sunday after local fire crews and emergency teams put out the fire, Waldron said. Repairs are expected to continue throughout the week on 800 feet of the trestle, he said.

“I’m not saying when it will be completed or when service will be restored,” said Waldron, who also would not give a cost estimate for the damage and reconstruction. “I don’t have a timeline for that, but we do expect the work to continue through the week.”
