NFTA plans Cobblestone District expansion for Metro Rail

BUFFALO, N.Y. — With a million people visiting Canalside each summer, the NFTA says there is a demand for the Metro Rail to expand beyond its current last stop at the special events station outside HarborCenter. This would bring rail service into the Cobblestone District.Website Insert Turnkey Packages copy

The plans could include re-using the DL&W Terminal that sits behind First Niagara Center.

“One of the impetuses to do the study was all the excitement and the development that’s occurring in Canalside Cobblestone,” says NFTA Executive Director Kim Minkel.

The NFTA is looking at two options to extend service to South Park and Michigan. Option A includes adding rail service along South Park to Michigan while maintaining two lanes of traffic for cars. Option B extends service along that same stretch, but moves it inside the DL&W Terminal and offers waterfront views.
