California: Why the party train to Coachella will not happen

It seemed like such a good idea. Board a train in Los Angeles, and get off a couple of hours later at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.

But at least for this year, the “Coachella train,” as it was loosely referred, will not happen.

“Amtrak was unable to process the request even though all funding was there,” said Cathedral City Council member Greg Pettis, who chairs the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee, which is part of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, or AQMD. “We are going to try again next year.”
