CHICAGO (June 8)—Corridor Capital LLC Chairman James E. Coston announced the company has become a private-sector Partner in the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission (MIPRC) and will attend its annual meeting in Kalamazoo, Mich., June 10-12.

MIPRC, founded in 2000, is a compact of Midwestern states to pursue a common agenda in advocating for passenger-rail development and funding. Current members include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

“We have followed the efforts of MIPRC closely and have always supported its policies and priorities,” said Coston, a Chicago attorney who founded Corridor Capital in 2004 to finance the rebuilding and updating of passenger rolling stock for states seeking to expand their intercity passenger-train services. “Now it’s time to progress from moral support to active involvement.”

MIPRC Partners are private-sector businesses and not-for-profit organizations that financially support the Commission and its regional, bipartisan and multi-branch approach to passenger-rail development and advocacy. MIPRC Partners are recognized in MIPRC’s publications and meetings.

Current commercial partners include St. Louis-based Emerson Electric and U.S. Railcar Co. of Columbus, Ohio. Not-for-profit partners include the University of Illinois, Southern Illinois University, Illinois State University, the Mayo Clinic, the Ramsey County (St. Paul) Regional Railroad Authority, the United Transportation Union and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Rail Conference. Amtrak has been designated an honorary partner.

“We are looking forward to working with these distinguished businesses and institutions to make high-quality passenger rail service a reality across the entire Midwest,” Coston said.. “Ridership is growing on all Midwestern Amtrak routes, with some lines showing double-digit growth and many trains sold out. Passenger trains have become popular and now are essential to the growth of the regional economy.

“We are proud that Corridor Capital is now a partner in MIRPC’s effort to expand and enhance the Midwestern passenger-train system.”
