Construction of two new railroad tunnels under the Hudson River has been certified as a project vital not just to New York and New Jersey but to the entire U.S.Website Insert Coach Business Class Food Service copy

All agree that the two 1910 tubes connecting Penn Station and New Jersey were approaching the end of their useful lives even before they were severely damaged by the saltwater flooding of Superstorm Sandy four years ago.

Gov. Cuomo, Gov. Christie and the federal government are all on board with funding promises. What’s not to like?

Generally unnoticed until now, Amtrak — the lead player on the so-called Gateway project — eventually plans to seize the Manhattan block bounded by 7th and 8th Aves. and 30th and 31st Sts., as well as the properties on the other sides of both avenues, for the construction of a railroad station and train yard.
