Feds approve $40M funding for Orlando/Central Florida’s SunRail Commuter Rail System Phase 2 into Osceola

August 14, 2015

The Federal Transit Administration has signed off on the full funding grant agreement to expand SunRail into Osceola County, according to Representative John Mica.

Phase 2 South plans to add four new stations, connecting Sand Lake Road in Orange County to Poinciana, passing through Meadow Woods, Osceola Parkway and Kissimmee Amtrak.

“It sits in Congress, has to be reviewed by Congress for 30 days,” Rep. Mica said, “That allows us, by the end of September, to sign the full funding grant agreement.”

SunRail won a $93 million grant from the federal government in May, with the remaining balance for the $186 million project set to come from the state, along with Orange and Osceola counties.
