FRA signs off on environmental work for Minneapolis-Duluth high-speed rail project

September 13, 2013

According to a press release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has found ‘no significant impact’ in a Tier 1 environmental assessment of Minneapolis to Duluth high-speed rail. The project, known as the Northern Lights Express (NLX), will now proceed to preliminary engineering.

The proposed project includes constructing necessary infrastructure for a high-speed intercity passenger rail service between Minneapolis and Duluth, Minn., a portion of which travels through Douglas County in Wisconsin. Trains will reach speeds up to 110 miles per hour. — MNDOT
