Illinois commits to Chicago-Moline passenger rail

MOLINE — The Chicago-to-Moline passenger rail line appears to be back on track after the Illinois Department of Transportation told the Federal Railroad Administration it is proceeding with the project.Website Insert Passenger Trains Very Well copy

The announcement should remove the risk of Illinois losing $177 million in federal funding for the rail line that was set to expire on June 30.

About $45 million in state funding was awarded for the project under the administration of Gov. Pat Quinn. But Gov. Bruce Rauner put the project under review after taking office and declined to give a timeline for when that process would be completed.
