Lynchburg, Virginia Amtrak passengers to get more rail service next year

Roanoke is expected to commence Amtrak service in the fall of 2017. Currently, a connector bus service runs from Roanoke to the Lynchburg Amtrak station on Kemper Street.

“The return of intercity passenger rail service to Roanoke will continue to provide customers options to travel by rail,” Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods said in an email.

Lynchburg passenger rail service began in 2009 in the restored Kemper Street station. Lynchburg has one of four Amtrak routes funded by the state.
