New Plans for Trains Within Michigan

March 2, 2015

Until 1971,

Detroit, Grand Rapids, Holland, and Lansing used to all be connected by passenger rail…

And now, the Michigan Environmental Council is looking at whether to bring it back.

WILX, NBC TV-10 interviewed Liz Treutel with the Michigan Environmental Council:

“It’s going to look at ridership demand,” said Treutel… “Right now we have Amtrak service which is great, but it all leads down to Chicago,” said Treutel. “And what we really want to see is connecting Michigan cities to one another…”

There are 11 colleges or universities along the potential route, including Michigan State.

The Council’s study will take about seven months.
