His remarks come after the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) ordered Amtrak to retrain its track workers on basic safety rules.

On Sunday, an Amtrak train crashed into a backhoe, killing the backhoe’s operator and a supervisor. Both men were veteran Amtrak employees.

Investigators say the train only had five seconds to break before the collision.

The Federal Railroad Administration order suggests the workers killed Sunday may not have been told the track was being reopened to train traffic.

Schumer (D) says there is not a “culture of safety” at Amtrak, and says lack of proper safety procedures were not taken.
