Oklahoma: State’s Heartland Flyer needs to stay on track

Some newspapers have made a habit of backing the Legislature in its attempts to eliminate funding for the Heartland Flyer. We’re not among them. Instead, we stand with the legions of working-class Oklahomans and the leaders in Oklahoma City, Norman, Purcell, Pauls Valley and Ardmore who know the train is not just a boon for tourism, but for other types of industry as well.Website Insert Perfect Answer copy

The Heartland Flyer, which makes a daily run from Oklahoma City to Fort Worth and then back again, was introduced into the Amtrak family in June 1999 as a joint project of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Amtrak itself. Texas also has a stake in it, which is why some of the unsavory characters at the statehouse want to shut the train down.
