Railroad cleaning up tracks from tanker animal fat leak

DES MOINES, Iowa – A railroad tanker carrying 25,000 gallons of animal fat leaked for about 200 miles along tracks Monday from Missouri Valley in Harrison County to Fairfax in Linn County, according to an Iowa Department of Natural Resources press release.Website Insert Coach Business Class Food Service copy

It happened when a cap apparently came off the valve’s bottom tanker. The leak wasn’t discovered until the train made it to Cedar Rapids.

Environmental specialists inspected the track along the route and found varying amounts of spillage, including material on the track right-of-way and crossings.
