The New Passenger Rail Development Era

October 28, 2014

The era of railroads developing new passenger trains for their tracks disappeared with the advent of Amtrak in 1971. Since then, passenger train development – new trains on new routes, or additional train frequencies on existing routes – has been less than robust.

Today, a new era of passenger train developers has emerged. Corridor Capital Chairman James Coston’s presentation to the Railway Age 2014 Passenger Trains on Freight Railroads in Washington, D.C. highlights how the modern passenger train developer is much like a movie producer or real estate developer: an assembler of all of the necessary pieces to create a new movie, building, or passenger train(s).
