Virginia board approves funding for increased Lynchburg train service

The Commonwealth Transportation Board adopted a new six-year plan today that includes full funding for a second daily train from Lynchburg and other measures aimed at easing congestion on the U.S. 29 corridor… [including] $32 million to fund another daily train from Lynchburg. This would be the third passenger train that serves the city, but only the second that originates in Lynchburg.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe addressed the transportation board… in Richmond this morning and said he was pleased to see full funding for the Lynchburg train.

The current Lynchburg train, which debuted in 2009, has doubled ridership projections and become one of the few profitable Amtrak routes in the nation, he said…
